Term 3, Week 4
Hi All,
We will have a big week at school preparing for the 2 ski camps next week.
Tomorrow in class we'll be joining up with the Year 5's from Room 4 and we'll be checking ski clothing, talking mountain safety and answering any questions the kids might have about the camp.
If you could please send your child to school tomorrow with their ski jacket, pants and gloves. They'll come home tomorrow following a check from myself and Markelle.
FAIR PLAY on the sports field.
Last week I had a big chat with the kids about sledging and putting others down on the sports field. This can sometimes be accepted as a natural part of sport for some children but I have let the kids know that it will not be tolerated on the field at school. This means that putting someone down or commenting on their sporting ability in a mean way is not ok. This behaviour has been used by kids in our class and the new guidelines set by me are that if any child uses derogatory terms towards another player they'll have a stand down period from playing the game they are involved in and a phone-call to home will also happen. Please talk to your children about the correct way to handle emotions on the sports field. If you want to discuss this with me, by all means, please come and see me - any good ideas are welcomed!
SPORTS UNIFORMS - TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY this week.
Tuesday - Gymnastics and Swimming
Wednesday - Cross Country - big drink is essential.
Thursday - Swimming..............please be aware that a mid-week wash of clothing will probably be the go.
Parish Mass will be in the church on Wednesday at 9am. Everyone is welcome.
Maths Buddy - all the children now have new usernames and passwords for the mathsbuddy.co.nz website. This site has tutorial videos as well as online activities for the children to develop their maths knowledge. Please encourage them to make the most of this site - we have free access for the next 6 months - it is usually a pay to use website.
I think that's it, have a great week. Please ensure that the baking contribution for camp should be on your radar. Teacher's favourites are chocolate caramel square, rocky road and ginger crunch. 😀

Term 3, Week 3
Hi all,
Well, there's 2 weeks to go until we get up the mountain to carve up the snow! I trust you are pretty much sorted with clothing - specifically thermals and snow jacket/pants/gloves.
Chains - if any family has chains they are willing to let some vehicles use this would be great. There are just a couple of parents who do not have access to these so if you have some you wouldn't mind sharing, please get in touch with me.
Swimming and Gymming - same deal this week. Swimming and Gymnastics on Tuesday and Swimming again on Thursday. At some stage this week we'll head over to the cross country loop also just to have a wander over and get familiar with the track. I'll try to do it on Thursday so that we can make the most of having our sports gear on AND minimise cleaning and drying of these for the next wear.
School Mass - next weekend, 9:00am. See you all there.
Short blog this week, Mrs Lyon is busy with sorting camp bits and pieces. I really enjoyed my chance to chat with you all and your kids last week during student led interviews - thank you for coming in and thanks for doing an awesome job with your children.
Have a great week.

URGENTLY NEEDED FOR THE FAIR
There is a PTA meeting this Tuesday 1 August. We have a very small PTA this year and in order for the fair in October to be successful, we desperately need some more parents involved. This does not mean that you will be coerced onto the PTA, but rather that you are helping with some aspect of the fair. If you feel that you would be able to help, please come along to the PTA meeting this Tuesday, or contact a parent rep from your class.
It is important that one parent rep from each class attends the PTA meetings so that you are able to update other parents.

Parent helpers for reading please - 1 day a week!
Hello all,
Please let me know if you could spare one afternoon a week to become a parent tutor for reading. This would involve 45 minutes of your time to hear 3 children reading for 15 minutes each. I would like to run this programme Monday - Thursday from 2:00pm - 2:45pm. This means I need 4 lovely volunteers. If you are unable to help but know of someone who might have the time, by all means recommend them to me, they don't have to be parents of R5 children.
Regards,
Mrs Lyon

Term 3, Week 1
WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
We have a busy term coming up with Gymnastics, swimming, cross country and a few other things which will bring us outside of the classroom. Hopefully by the end of the term the weather will be warmer and we'll be on the downhill slide to Term 4. Isn't it crazy how fast a year flies by.
Gymnastics and Swimming: This term we will be doing Gymnastics in the school hall with Sharelle Potter from Kelly Sports. It will be on these dates.
Balance (2 Weeks)
Please remember to send your child to school in sports uniform on these days....it might pay to remember that for Tuesdays and Thursdays for the first 4 weeks (and one catch up week to be decided upon soon ) that there will also be swimming on Tuesdays and Thursdays so swimming gear needs to be packed on these days also. Please pack a large drink bottle on these days as gym + swimming + walk to and from the pool can result in tired, thirsty kids.
Camp: I aim to gather some skiing information from the children this week (and attending parents) so that we can update the team at Coronet with all they need to know. Keep an eye out for a parent meeting to discuss next steps for camp planning . This will involve assigning parents to children for cabins, ski groups and rosters at the ski hut.
Student Led Conferences: These will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon/evenings. The children will be preparing for these during class time this week. Please go to this website www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and use the code adtrg to book a time.
Homework - Spelling as usual, worksheet, 20 mins daily reading time.
Thanks everybody, have a great weekend, I'm looking forward to seeing the kids on Monday - I usually notice how much they have grown after a break.
Mrs Lyon
p.s. If you are wondering - I had a fabulous holiday!
